Valentia Technologies releases Mobile Diabetes Monitoring Application (DiMonX™)
Valentia Technologies today announced the release of an advanced Mobile Diabetes Monitoring application (DiMonX™) as part of its expanding Mobile Clinical products suite. Valentia's Mobile Clinical products suite enables healthcare professionals and caregivers to manage various medical conditions in collaboration with their patients or clients using common mobile devices like mobile phones.
DiMonX™ has been designed to assist diabetic sufferers monitor their diabetes condition according to DAFNE guidelines. DAFNE, which is an acronym for Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating, is becoming an increasingly popular way of managing Type 1 diabetes. It provides diabetes sufferers with the skills necessary to estimate the carbohydrate intake in each meal in order that they can inject the appropriate insulin dosage.
The new DiMonX™ application is an enhancement to Valentia's existing diabetes mobile support tool which enables diabetes sufferers to transmit daily DAFNE-related data (i.e. glucose, ketone, insulin dosage, carbohydrate intake and diary details) to a central server using any mobile phone keypad. When transmitted, the data, which is time and date stamped, is immediately available to healthcare professionals. The transmitted data effectively becomes part of each patient's electronic medical record and can be used for medical reviews, scheduling of appointments and research. The application platform can accommodate substantial numbers of patients at various clinical locations.
The new DiMonX™ application, which runs on a smartphone, not only transmits data without use of a standard phone keypad but also stores a local record for patients, which they can reference for management and educational purposes. The handheld smartphone application operates on the latest release of Microsoft's Mobile 2003 Platform.
The enhanced features of DiMonX™ also include an intuitive graphical data entry interface. In addition, to encourage patient compliance, the application displays trend values of input data in graphical format.
DiMonX™ has been designed to transmit data using short messaging service. It can therefore be used at minimal cost and without technical complexity regardless of a patient's geographical location. Business and vacation travelers can, for example, continue to manage their conditions remotely with their existing caregivers.
Speaking at the DiMonX™ launch, Valentia Technologies Chief Operating Officer, Dr Ahmed Javad stated:
“in our view instant graphical representation encourages active patient participation and also alerts patients when a significant abnormality occurs. We feel that this feature will be particularly relevant to teenagers and newly-diagnosed sufferers.
DiMonX™ also includes a built-in reminder service to remind patients to record values and take appropriate insulin dosages. We are confident that our enhanced application will assist healthcare professionals to encourage even greater compliance among their patient groups.
We hope that Valentia's products will assist in meeting the DAFNE objective of “ it's not dose adjustment for normal eating, it's dose adjustment for normal living .”
We at Valentia are consistently striving to ensure that our health informatics products reflect the disease management needs of modern lifestyles and improve the quality of care for all chronic illnesses.”
